Maumee City Council Approves Wage Study and Water Rate Study

During their regularly scheduled meeting on April 6, Maumee City Council authorized The Archer Company out of Dublin, Ohio, to conduct a Classification and Compensation Study for the City in the amount of $17,000.
A long-awaited Water and Wastewater Rate Design Study was also authorized, to be conducted by Stantec. The amount allotted for the study is not to exceed $38,275. The study is set to start immediately and be wrapped up by November 1, 2026. Members of Council cautioned that the study may indicate we are not paying enough for water and wastewater.
Other actions taken by Maumee City Council at Monday night’s meeting are as follows:
- Authorized the Public Service Director to establish a Disabled Parking Program for eligible residents.
- Approved the hiring of Zachary Pickens to the Water Division and David Miley to the Sewer Division.
- Authorized a waiver of the sewer portion of the bill for Nature’s Nursery’s Bump, Set, Splat event, as the water will not go into the sanitary sewer.
- Approved the appointment of Dan Arnold as the Interim Law Director, effective May 1, 2026.
- Authorized the hiring of outside counsel to work in conjunction with the Law Director in the event suit needs to be filed against Namdar Group for breach of the TIF (Tax Increment Financing) agreement as it relates to The Shops at Fallen Timbers.
- Approved $200 payment for the Mayor and Public Information Officer to attend The Rotary Club of Maumee’s 45th Annual Charity Auction on April 17th.
- Authorized an agreement in the amount of $3,407.68 between the City of Maumee’s Prosecutor’s office and the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for continued participation in NORIS (Northwest Ohio Regional Information System).
- Authorized a contract with Maumee ProMow, LLC in the amount of $311,920.00 for landscaping and grounds maintenance.
- Approved Ordinance 015-2026, amending Section 915.03 of the Maumee Codified Ordinance and Ordinance 039-2022, which is related to the method by which Public Notices are posted in regards to weeds and the responsibility of the property owner. This was passed as an emergency.
- Approved Ordinance 016-2026, regarding the construction of heliports and helistops, and waived the three readings so ProMedica Urgent Care/ER can proceed with plans for their property on Medical Center Parkway.
- Approved the first reading of Resolution 010-2026, a resolution allowing the establishment of The Timbers Town Center Community Authority.
- Authorized the issuance of a permit for Slang Gang Weekend at the Lucas County Fairgrounds for June 11-14, 2026 and waived the noise ordinance until 10pm for those dates. Council member Barrow was excused from voting, as he had a conflict.
- Approved the second reading of Ordinance 006-2026, an ordinance to approve and adopt a Capital Asset Policy for the City of Maumee.
- Approved the second reading of Ordinance 011-2026, an ordinance approving the issuance and sale of notes not to exceed the amount of $5 MIL in anticipation of the sale of bonds to pay for improving streets, lighting, property acquisition, concrete curbs and gutters, landscaping, and intersection and rights-of-way improvements.
- Approved the second reading of Ordinance 012-2026, an ordinance approving the issuance and sale of notes not to exceed the amount of $2.5 MIL in anticipation of the sale of bonds to pay for the acquisition and site preparation of specific properties related to the sanitary sewer system.
- Approved the second reading of Ordinance 013-2026, an ordinance approving the issuance and sale of notes not to exceed the amount of $575,000 in anticipation of the sale of bonds to pay for the acquisition and to equip a hydro excavator truck to improve the sanity sewer system.
- Approved the second reading of Ordinance 014-2026, an ordinance approving the issuance and sale of notes not to exceed the amount of $1,795,000 in anticipation of the sale of bonds to pay for the acquisition and installation of new water meters.
- Approved the second reading of Ordinance 010-2026, an ordinance allowing the Mayor to accept a request for proposal from The Buehrer Group for the renovation of the Maumee Indoor Theater, and to enter into contracts for said renovation.
