By Sarah Mokri

During their regularly scheduled meeting on May 4, Maumee City Council approved the hiring of a City Administrator, Joshua Hartbarger, effective June 1 and an Urban Planning Manager, Dana Reising, effective May 18.

Mr. Hartbarger has about 20 years of municipal government experience and a background in public safety and leadership.

Ms. Reising hails from the City of Toledo and has experience in sustainable development, zoning, and city planning.

Other actions taken by Maumee City Council at Monday night’s meeting are as follows:

  • Approved a request to use 16 picnic tables at the Maumee Branch library on May 16th for Claire’s Day.
  • Approved the appointment of MPD Chief Josh Sprow as the Maumee representative to the Lucas County 911 Regional Council of Governments.
  • Approved the appointment of City Administrator Joshua Hartbarger to Arrowhead Architectural Committee with Urban Planning Manager Dana Reising as an alternate.
  • Approved a permit for the Monster Truck Wars Show at the Lucas County Fairgrounds on June 20.
  • Approved the first reading of Ordinance 018-2026, an ordinance adding solar regulations as Chapter 1147 of the The Maumee Codified Ordinances.  This was originally slated to waive the three readings, but Councilman Barrow moved to make it a first reading.  Council unanimously agreed.
  • Approved Resolution 013-2026, clarifying meeting provisions of the Maumee Charter, such as what constitutes a meeting (a majority of a governing body).
  • Approved Resolution 014-2026, clarifying contract provisions of the Maumee Charter.
  • Approved Ordinance 019-2026 to amend Ordinance 022-2024, regarding the compensation of certain employees of the City of Maumee.  Passed as an emergency.
  • Approved Ordinance 020-2026, amending Ordinance 025-2022 and Section 123.01 of The Maumee Codified Ordinances.  Passed as an emergency.
  • Considered and accepted council committee, boards, and commission attendance rules and added them to Section 5 of the Council Rules.
  • Approved the second reading of Ordinance 017-2026, an amendment to portions of Chapter 927 of the sewer regulations in the Maumee Codified Ordinances.  This ordinance will do two things.  One, require property owners (single family residences excluded) who want to tap into the sewer system to get approval from the Public Services Director and Capital Projects Manager, who will determine if the sewer system will be adequate for the proposed use and giving the City the authority to have the property owner pay for the study.  Additionally, approval of Ordinance 017-2026 will change the homeowner responsibility of the sewer lateral from the point of connection to the right of way, with the caveat that if the residential property owner is determined to be at fault for issues between the right of way and the tap, the City may assess the homeowner for the cost of repairs.
  • Approved Resolution 010-2026, a resolution allowing the establishment of The Timbers Town Center Community Authority.
