During the regularly scheduled City Council meeting on June 15, Maumee Mayor Chelsea Ziss announced that due to the feedback they had received from residents, the City will not be going forward with plans for a proposed disc golf course at Towpath Park. The City is open to suggestions for alternative locations.
Actions taken by Maumee City Council at Monday night’s meeting are as follows:
- Authorized the closure of South Detroit Avenue between Town Street and the cul-de-sac on June 24, 2026 from 10:00-11:00 am for the Maumee City Schools Summer Camp Bike Ride.
- Confirmed the appointment of Daniel Arnold from Interim Law Director to Law Director.
- Confirmed the appointment of Scott Kunzler as Municipal Prosecutor of the City of Maumee. Approved the updated Municipal Prosecutor Job Description.
- Approved the disposal of two 2022 Ford Police Utility Vehicles through GovDeals.com, as they were declared surplus due to age, mileage, and maintenance costs. Replacement vehicles were previously approved as part of the 2025 budget.
- Approved Resolution 016-2026, declaring the necessity of lighting the streets and public ways. This is a resolution will be followed up with an ordinance levying the assessment and a restructuring (note: not an increase) of the rates.
- Approved the first reading of Ordinance 027-2026, an ordinance repealing and replacing Ordinances 012-2023 and 010-2024 regarding the Facade Loan/Grant Program. The new ordinances establish metrics and tightens eligibility guidelines. The maximum grant awarded for each property will be $25,000 and applicants may receive one grant per property every five years.
- Approved Resolution 016-2026, establishing grounds for which a petitioner can request a review by the Capital Projects Manager and the Capital Projects Manager can request a review from the Review Committee for unique cases not outlined in the Sewer Remediation Program. The ordinance also establishes procedural rules by which the Review Committee will conduct its hearings, and makes it where any appeals submitted to the Committee will be considered timely as long as they are filed within fifteen days of the passage of the resolution (passed 6/15/26).
- Approved Ordinance 028-2026, amending Ordinance 021-2026 regarding rates and fees in the City of Maumee. This amendment is to allow for the rental of cabanas and private after hours rentals of the pool area at Rolf Park. This was declared and passed as an emergency.
- Approved the second reading of Ordinance 026-2026, an ordinance allowing the submission of proposed changes to the Charter of the City of Maumee to be put on the ballot for the election on November 3, 2026. This will add three amendments to the Charter, as proposed by the Charter Review Commission:
- To align primary elections in accordance with the laws of the State of Ohio.
- To appoint a temporary replacement if a Councilmember is called to military service and will be absent for more than 90 days. This saves their position if they are called to duty.
- To add recall provisions.
The next regular Maumee City Council meeting is scheduled for July 13, 2026 at 6:15 in council chambers.
